Issue 'I Voted' POAPs
Multiple other DAOs have begun issuing 'I Voted' POAPs to individuals who participate in governance via Snapshot. For example, see the Sushi Multichain Expansion vote. Olympus should do the same.
Justification
Issuing POAPs to Snapshot voters benefits Olympus DAO and Ohmies. For Olympus governance, it provides more reason for Ohmies, especially those with little relative voting power, to vote on Snapshot proposals - they get to claim a cool looking POAP. Olympus may also use POAPs issued to voters to gate entries into poap.fun raffles during community nights and events like fOHMo. For Ohmies, it provides public proof of your participation, which may be particularly cool to show off in the future when Olympus gains mind share amongst the wider crypto community.
Anecdotally, I recently noticed during the 2nd Olympus Community Night that Ohmies in the discord chat were very eager to claim their POAPs. This makes me believe that POAPs for Snapshot voters may encourage more Ohmies, particularly non-whales, to get involved in governance.
Implementation
Implementation should be relatively straightforward but there would be an ongoing workload involved with issuing POAPs. A short guide on adding the POAP module to Snapshot can be found here.
Upfront work includes:
- An admin on the Snapshot space must enable the POAP module.
- Design of a generic round image for the POAP that has space for OIP-XXX text to be added depending on the proposal the POAP is for.
Ongoing work includes:
- A small group of reliable individuals is responsible for creating and assigning the POAPs for each OIP.
- Creation of the custom POAP image for each OIP.
- Creation of the POAP itself using the POAP Backoffice.
- Linking of the POAP to the Snapshot proposal by contacting the POAP team over telegram or discord.
Note: The snapshot proposals can be published before the POAP is ready, the POAP is assigned after the proposal goes live. This will not block or delay Snapshot votes.
Conclusion
POAPs for Snapshot voters could help to increase the number of Ohmies engaging in governance. Importantly, I believe it provides more incentives for Ohmies with smaller balances to get involved in governance.
The primary disadvantage is the small amount of ongoing work to create and issue POAPs for each OIP.
This is not filed as an OIP as it does not affect Olympus Policy, smart contracts, or inter DAO relations. The attached poll is to allow the community to vote on whether this should be pursued.
